"New Scientific Research: how to avoid Dementia & Alz now & later."

“Want to be YOU at age 93? New Research Offers Proof.”
·       1. Me: Important news: “University of Texas, Dallas, 10.21.13, lead author, Denise Park, in journal, Psychological Science offers verified evidence you can avoid Dementia and even Alzheimer’s as a Senior.

·       You are going to live to 95, if you avoid being run-down by a City bus. Problem: 50% of Seniors over 80 have Alz or other forms of ‘dementia’. Wanna avoid it?”

·       2. You: “Sure, but will the solution be complicated, time- consuming and annoying?”

·       3. Me: “Expect it to be great fun and even pleasure. Be motivated to enjoy your present intelligence & memory in your Senior years. OK?”

·       4. You: “My memory is my Mind and sense of reality. Sure, tell me more.”

·       5. Me: “You may have heard that learning NEW skills in your Senior years enhances you brainpower. It’s a scientific fact. But just watching Jeopardy on TV, or playing Bridge does not create “Cognitive-Reserve”.

·       6. You: “Cognitive-Reserve is probably what avoids dementia, right? What does it take to make a difference
In staying mentally healthy as a Senior?”

·       7. Me: “Get this: learning things that are Mentally- demanding, challenging, and Unfamiliar. You gotta break out of your Comfort-Zone.”

·       8. You: “So doing the “Same-old, same-old” won’t cut it, huh? Playing Bridge or with that TV show is just NOT enough. Examples of what WILL work would be helpful.”

·       9. Me: “SpeedReading101.org fits the bill. It requires both
Short & long-term memory participation.

·       You use both left-brain analysis, and right-brain pattern-recognition, together with using creative-imagination.”
Learning something NEW is the secret. The fact that it’s fun and useful, and easy to master, is a bonus.”

·       10. You: “Ok, seminars & personal growth workshops, what else?”

·       11. Me: “Learn how to be a photographer or an artist. Don’t get nervous, your work is for you, not to hang in the Metropolitan.

·       It’s learning and improving on a NEW skill. It makes your Brain work creating new Neural Networks, with Synaptic-Connections. That’s the secret, see?”

·       Some folks travel a lot as a Senior. An extra benefit is they can practice learning a new language. Just some useful phrases to order dinner or make a purchase is dynamite for your brain’s health.”

·       12. You: “That sounds easy and fast. When should I start?”

·       13. Me: “Is NOW good for you? Not kidding. The More You Learn (now) the healthier your brain stays. The secret again is what you learn is Unfamiliar, Demanding,
Mentally Challenging. Not ‘same-old, same-older’, right?”

·       14. You: “I’m on this, like flies on sticky-paper. If I control sanity or dementia, I want my Mind, identity & IQ to my last day. That’s right, and thanks.”

·       15. Me: “If you start now, you will begin to notice your memory improves within seven (7) days of practice.

·       Become aware when you are being Argumentative, Sarcastic, Defensive, and speaking cynically. You create a negative attitude that terminates your learning & lowers your memory speed.”

·       16. You: “How come?”

·       17. Me: “Everyone’s Mind is protective of the Status-Quo, and does NOT want to improve. You have to baby your mind into learning new skills & knowledge. Why? Your Mind sees anything NEW as a Threat to your survival.”

·       18. You: “Forget I asked WHY. The psychology is not important, I want my entire 95 years to be Mindful & happy. Thanks for the Send-Off.”

·       See ya, Remember, “You SNOOZE, you lose.” And, “The faster you learn, the longer you stay mentally-strong.”

"Are You Normal and hate Learning?"

“Are You ‘Normal’ and Hate Learning?”
·       1. Me: “Normal is the opposite of Abnormal, right? Dictionary.com defines ‘normal’ as Average-Ordinary-Common. Add: mediocre & second-rate.

·       Normal makes you Defensive toward Change,  Improvement, and expanding your Comfort-Zone.
Are Bill Gates, Warren Buffet & Donald Trump Normal?”

·       It’s not just Semantics - ‘Normal’ is for losers. Extraordinary ideas and actions bring home the bacon.”

·       2. You: “My life experience tells me that “abnormal” is dangerous, and scary. I don’t Hate learning, it just takes too long and more effort than it’s worth.”

·       3. Me: “I turned down offers to buy into Apple, Google & Amazon at a few bucks each. I was NORMAL. I did catch Gold at $35 and made a couple of bucks. That’s ABNORMAL. Which do you Choose?”

·       4. You: “I wish I bought any one of them. But RISK is scary, yes or no?”

·       5. Me: “And so is “Change”. Improvement is Change, and improvement come from Learning, so learning is scary too. Yet we know, “You SNOOZE, you lose.”

·       6. You: “I believe in learning, your motto, “The faster you learn, the more you EARN,” makes sense. But…”

·       7. Me: “Here’s why Normal is ‘Scary’. See: Psychological Science journal, 9.05.11, University of Pa. Jack Goncalo.
Creativity introduces new ideas, strategies & behaviors.

·       97% of people vote in favor of “Creativity”. But this loved
CREATIVITY produces mental Uncertainty. So Normal people REJECT creativity when they see it in action.”

·       8. You: “Are you saying normal-people cannot be creativity and make money?”

·       9. Me: “You got it in spades. When Normal folks personally get or see something original, new, & creative…they run like their fundament is on-fire.”

·       10. You: “Any proof for that belief?”

·       11. Me: “What and when was the last Major improvement or change at all in-your-daily-existence?
Human fear Newness because DIFFERENT is risky.”

·       12. You: “Not proof, in my opinion.”

·       13. Me: “Try this. We’re born ‘hardwired’ for 75% of what we do in life. Digestion, immunity, breathing & heart pumping, right? We have no UNCERTAINTY, it’s on auto-pilot. No decisions to make, it just works. DNA & RNA.”

·       14. You: “So we are born disliking the UNKNOWN. And only Freaks – the Abnormal people desire Creativity.”

·       15. Me: “Second reason: we are brainwashed (programmed) by family-media-culture & government what are Normal, acceptable goals, ideas & beliefs.

·       Do you want people to think you’re a Terrorist or Revolutionary? You get isolated by your own society. Education through graduate school, teaches us what is Normal. And Creativity is Not acceptable for 97% of us.”

·       16. You: “No. I admit newness sounds good, but let others be the guinea pig for novelty. My comfort zone finds Uncertainty too risky.”

·       17. Me: “Right. And that’s why we have Resistance to change located in a neural-network in our brain. Get this please:

·       We take PRIDE in the way we do things, even when they are harder & bad for us. “You-Can’t-Tell-Me-What-To-Do!” Professor Goncalo says: we associate negative works like Vomit-Poison-Agony with “Creative-Ideas”.

·       18. You: “OK, now that I’m aware of my resistance to change, so what?”

·       19. Me: “Accept that you hate Uncertainty, and need a new strategy to improve your life. More later, OK?”

·       See ya

Why Creativity is Your Secret to Promotions At-Work.

“Is creativity the Secret to winning Career Promotions?”
·       1. Mike: “I see that look in your eye. You want to educate me like I don’t get enough in school all day.”

·       2. Me: “Kid I got a lot to do, but making sure you never come back to live in my house After you graduate college is in the top-ten on my goals.”

·       3. Mike: “Will it be about politics which I hate or culture which is Boring? Wait. Will it help me win hot-girls or make me a ton of money?”

·       4. Me: “If you are bored, raise your right hand, and you go your way, and I’ll…”

·       5. Mike: “I like that thing you said about, “even a broken clock is right twice-a-day.” Tell me something.”

·       6. Me: “There a lot of secrets to success in relationships, school & at-work. One Secret talent works in All of them.
You can learn it. And it’s easy, and quick. Interested?”

·       7. Mike: “Tell me and promise it’s not going to hurt my head.”

·       8. Me: “Creativity”.  If you are not creative, that means
you are a Drone, a Robot, and never will be a Leader or make serious Money. That’s how powerful being CREATIVE is.”

·       9. Mike: “I just Googled create and creative. It means something  produced from your Imagination. It’s a different kind of “Thought”, and is “Original’.”

·       10. Me: “Create and Creative come from Latin meaning to Make. Cousin Albert (Einstein) said, “Intuition (being creative) is the most important thing in your brain.”

·       I say Creativity is the same as Insight-Inspiration-Intuition & an Epiphany, a Revelation. The secret is making it happen.”

·       11. Mike: “Cut to the chase. How?”

·       12. Me: Two steps: use your consciousness (Left- Brain) to do all the research on what you want to create  & be creative about. Google it.

·       Subconsciousness. Use your Right-Brain to remember past experiences, patterns you recognize, and Emotionalize it. Give your own personality’s Twist.

·       What does this new thing you want to write about, draw a picture of, or INVENT bring to mind? Relax & let Mental-Movies Create (make it happen).”

·       13. Mike: “Not too clear. How to I instantly pop out my creativity in writing a song, a story, or asking for and getting a date with a hot-girl.”

·       14. Me: “Nobody knows. But we do know it come easily and fast when you let your Right-Brain lead the way. It is about your Attitude, Mood, Beliefs, & expectations.

·       Best research on creativity is by Professor Martinsen at BI Norwegian Business School, 4.02.2013. He created a list of list of 7-personality-traits that creative folks have.

·       15. Mike: “I need something I can remember, not 7. Pop, be creative.”

·       16. Me: “If you understand and have these 2-traits, you will be creative and win all-the-marbles. One: “Flexibility:
See different aspects of the issues & ideas, not just the one YOU like.
Don’t be afraid to be wrong. Trial-and-Error produces the “feedback” to be creative. Be your own editor.

·       17. Mike: “What the other trait?”

·       18. Me: It’s called “Association”. You let your right-brain link (combine) ideas together that are weird, ridiculous, humorous, and Unnatural. Can you imagine a Horse sleeping in your bed? Think ‘science-fiction’, & wing it.”

·       Professor Martinsen recommended you experience negative emotions. Let you Moods fluctuate. Don’t have or use  a lot of self-confidence. Creativity is a FLOW state.”

·       19. Mike: “I like the be weird stuff. What else?”

·       20. Me: “Do you remember the neurotransmitter (brain hormone) Dopamine? Good. It is called the “Pleasure” (feel-good) hormone. When creativity is Flowing, you get doses of Dopamine in your brain. You feel good and have fun. You want to keep doing it.”

·       21. Mike: “Pop, what do you want me to Take-Away about how to make Creativity work for me?”

·       22. Me: “Mike, step one, if you meditate for five-minutes before you begin your creative activity, you improve your Mindset, Mood, & Attitude. Sit down, close your eyes, & relax.

·       Step two: Four Diaphragmatic breaths and on exhaling, chant “Hum-m, Hum-m, Hum-m, & Hum-m on each breath.

·       Step three: Intend a SMILE on your face for 18-seconds at a time. It activates your right-brain.

·        Step four: let you imagination, mental-pictures go where they want. Follow the pictures for CUES & hints about your area of interest. Pay attention, but let it flow by itself. You are creative, and it will be there for you.”
See ya,

"Some Strategies can IMPROVE your life. Here's one."

“If you don’t have specific strategies to help me, get out of my face.”
·       1. Me: “Mike (my 15 year old), which is more important, your LEFT or your RIGHT hemispheres?”

·       2. Mike: “Oh, it’s time for my Speedreading101.com education. Do I have to answer this question, I got homework.”

·       3. Me: “Forget it, you’re out of my will. More for your siblings. See ya.”

·       4. Mike: “Is this stuff going to really help me win a scholarship, a hot-girl-friend, or get rich working?”

·       5. Me: “It’s going to give you the “competitive-edge” to win by acing exams & getting “A” in your classes. If you use these strategies (easy & fast systems) you’ll get Promotions, Bonuses & be happy 24/7. Good enough?”

·       6. Mike: “I know you want to help, but …”

·       7. Me: “Here’s the deal. Hang in for five minutes, and if the knowledge is not important IN-YOUR-OPINION – you are free to leave and play Video-Games all nite.”

·       8. Mike: “Deal, and remember, you said in MY opinion, not yours, Pop,”

·       9. Me: “What’s you answer to that original question, left or right brain, which is better?”

·       10. Mike: “In school they teach us that it’s the LEFT-brain
(hemisphere) because it contains reason, logic, & planning.
No question, “analysis, math, language & music “are vital.
I choose RIGHT brain because it runs creativity, emotion &
remembering ‘patterns’.”

11. Me: “Nice shot Mike, the latest research, Oct. 4, 2013, at Florida State University, lead author, Dean Falk. It’s published in the journal, “Brain”. The answer is: both brains working together.”

·        12. Mike: “A trick question to fool me.”

·       13. Me: “Write this down, it’s important to remember. The largest bundle of fibers in the Brain is called the Corpus Callosum.

·       It functions like a switchboard. It connects left & right hemispheres (brain) to communicate one-to-the-other.
Lefty & Righty are partners, & what one knows, it tells the other.
·       So what? If you want to be a Brainiac, you need to have both halves of your cerebral cortex work as a team.

·       14. Mike: “Wait. I got it. If you’re only working with either one, you are short-changing yourself. “The whole
Is greater than the sum of its parts.”

·       15. Me: “Brilliant, on-the-dinero. Now guess which famous man had the largest corpus-callosum? Guess.”

·       16. Mike: “Pop, I’m not a mind-reader. Ben Franklin, G. Washington? No, they would be the smartest. A scientist, right?”

·       17. Me: “That’s worth $10 added to your allowance. The answer is Cousin Albert.”

·       18. “Mike: “Great, like I didn’t know he was the top Brainiac. Everyone knows Einstein. Now show me how to improve my Corpus Callosum. I got homework to do.”

·       19. Me: “Baby-easy and quick. You goal is to get both halves of your integrated, working like a team, not separately.”

·       20. Mike: “Tell me the STEPS.”

·       21. Me. Step one. “Sit down, close your eyes and keep a SMILE on your face for 2-minute of this practice.

·       Step two: four Diaphragmatic breaths. On Exhaling, chant a loud, “Hum-m. Hum-m. Hum-m. Hum-m. Total of 16-times.

·       Step three, pay attention. Mentally visualize the symbol for “Infinity”, an ‘eight’ sleeping on its back. Got it?”

·       Step four: Raise your dominant hand, stick out your Index-Finger and physically Trace (like an Air-Guitar) a three-foot wide Infinity-Symbol in front of you.

·       Trace the sleeping 8 again with your dominant index-finger. A total of six (6) times. Wide, in front of you. Peripheral-Left, all-the-way to Peripheral-Right. 3-feet wide.

·       Step five: Now do exactly the same thing with your other hand, using your opposite Index-Finger. Get it?”

·       22. Mike: “That’s easy. First TRACE the “Infinity” with my right-hand index-finger for a minute or so. Next TRACE the “Infinity” with my left-hand index-finger. My eyes are closed and I am visualizing right?”

·       23. Me: “Sure. Now Open your eyes and do this AIR tracing in front of you 3-foot wide, moving left-to-right.
Exactly the same 2-minute exercise (strategy)but with your eyes open. How many times? Six-times.

·       24. “Mike: “Don’t tell me. I’m programming your mind to use both sides instead of one. How many days do I…?”

·       25. Me: “Once a day for 14-days, or twice-a-day for 4-minutes for one-week (7-days). Your mind begins to improve daily, so finish the exercise. Got it?”

·       26. Mike: “Makes a lot of sense, and being like Cousin Albert is worth the effort. Thanks, Pop.”

·       See ya,

·       A) “The faster you learn, the more you earn.”
B) “You SNOOZE, you Lose.”
c) “The WHOLE is greater than the SUM of its parts.”
