"What's The Secret of Convincing a Group?"

What’s The Secret of Speaking to a Group & Convincing Them?
My teenager Michael, asked me to help him improve his Talk for Class President.
·      1. “Mike, there are two-things that rivets our attention other than Ben Franklins ($100) falling from the sky.”

·      2. “In my circles $10 bills would do it, Pop.”

·      3. “The sound of our own name, and the words, “You-Your-Yours”, meaning ourselves, right?”

·      4. “Sure, we are in love with ourselves, and I get interested in anything that will make my life easier & better.”

·      5. “Scientists say there are only two-drives for humans. Not for wealth, money, & success, or girls throwing themselves at your feet. Guess, and if you come close your win a Prize.”

·      6. You always say a “Prize”, and when I guess right, you say the prize is living in your house rent-free or my 3-meals a day.”

·      7. “You guess even one of the two human motivations you get ten bucks outside of your allowance. Fair?”

·      8. “Pay up Pop. “Pleasure & Pain”, or as my bio teacher says, “Reward and Punishment”. Want more for free? Pleasure is associated with Reward, and Pain with Punishment.”

·      9. “You got brains you never ever used. Here’s the $10er.
Remember, nobody likes a smart ass. That means if you want to Influence-persuade-convince one-person or a group, tell a story, not dry, boring facts.”

·      10. “You think I don’t listen, but I remember, “Words just tell, while stories paint visual pictures and S-e-l-l.”

·      11. “Sounds corny and like a cliché, but more people get rich remembering Homo sapiens hate school and advertising.
Stories amuse & entertain while school is mostly dry & boring, and advertising reminds us of a lack-of-money.”

·      12. “You got that right. My teachers are out to get me or at least make me feel stupid. And kids don’t read phony ads. But learning can be fun.”
·      13. “Let divide a Talk into two-parts: Content (facts & statistics) and Delivery whether you put people to sleep by your voice, lack of facial expressions, & body-language.”

·      14. “Explain Quickly and in plain English, Delivery.”

·      15. “Teachers use fancy language you need Webster’s to get. Could you remember: voice-inflection means pitch & tone coming out of your mouth? Mike. Listen, it’s easy/

·      Vary your Tone every 90-seconds. Raise your voice for a Question, and Lower it when giving them a Fact or statistic. Next, speak Louder for important points,
and Lower on ending an idea or point you want to make.”

·      16. “That’s easy. When I’m excited (enthusiastic) let my voice rise & show it. When I want to show my idea is worth remembering, drop my voice.”

·      17. “Get this Mike, “Pitch is going from neutral to either a Higher or Lower note in-a-vowel. Example: when you say:
“No! Yes! OK! or “Yes, really!” – raise your Pitch. It emphasizes your Intention. Wait.”
·       “Now an example for Lowering your pitch: when you say: “Not! Do! Be!”  Why? The lower pitch is a sign of your personal-power, self-confidence, finality & purpose.”

·      18. “I know you’re talking about Inflection in my voice.”

·      19. “One-more inflection called Double. Rising & falling or Falling & Rising pitch. Example: “OK, Amazing, or “Do” it.” Why? Changing pitch & tone in these words indicates Self-Assurance, Certainty, & Finality by the speaker.

·      20. “I got it. My level, even sounding voice is a monotone. It’s boring and puts people to sleep. What else?”

·      21. “For another $10er, take this sentence: “I didn’t say she lost all the money,” Now say it aloud, and on each repetition emphasize a different word in the sentence.

·      Example: “I didn’t say SHE lost all the money.” (Maybe her mother is to blame.) See how your Emphasis changes the meaning of the sentence.

·      Example: “I” didn’t say she lost all the money.” Could my Uncle Albert have been the one to say it?”

·      Example: “I didn’t say she lost all the Money.” Maybe she lost the whole CAR where the money was stashed. Get it?

·      When you put your inflection on a different word, it can entirely change the meaning of the sentence.”

·      22. “What I’m getting Pop is that when I Lower my voice, people pay more Attention to my “content”. So “delivery” changes my content for the better, right Pop.”

·      23. “On the “dinero”, Mike.” The experts call changes in your inflection (pitch & tone) Pattern-Interrupt. It subconsciously forces people to concentrate on you.”

·      That’s enough for one day. See ya,

P.S. Can You remember & repeat to yourself, these Five words. “Learning is always about Doing.” Say it mentally or aloud, four-times, so it sinks in.
“Learning-is-always-about-Doing.”
Why? To remind yourself, “Learning is NOT talking about
Doing. NOT asking Questions about Doing. And NOT
Trying to Do! “Learning is always about Doing!
         Experiencing is Doing. Talking aint.”

New Research: Learning & Memory Up 33% - by Rhythm
·      1. “Like a fun way to Ace school and work?”

·      2. “Is it l-o-n-g and Boring, Pop?”

·      3. “My students say it’s cool & like a video game. Yes or no?”

·      4. “I’ll do a ‘Mind Experiment’, like Einstein called it.

·      5. It’s tested & proven at neuro-physicists at UCLA. It appears in the journal, Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience. Senior author, M. R. Mehta.

·      6. “Do you know the tune, “Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream?”

·      7. “Sure, it’s a kid’s tune everyone knows from camp.”

·      8. “Don’t look for complications. You replace the words with what you want to learn & remember, right? It the Rhythm that helps you learn & remember whatever you insert, permanently.”

·      9. “That’s the big deal, Pop?”

·      10. Step: one. “Sit down, eyes opened, and you TAP (slap) like a drum, to a beat - on your knee-tops. That gets your Rhythm moving from your mind to your entire body. The Tune is, “Row-Row-Row.”

·      Step: two. The Lyrics (words) to remember are:
“Synapse is a junction (connection) between 2 nerve cells.”

·      Step: three: S-m-i-l-e as you Tap your knee-tops, eyes closed & mentally Visualize the words you want to recall. See them in your mind’s eye, as-if you’re reading a book.”

·      11. “I can do that, and it sounds like a great way to learn. First, I hear the Tune (not the words to “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”. Next, slap each hand on each leg-top. Drumming. Last is Singing, chanting the words I want to remember, right Pop?”

·      12. “I’m really proud of you. Now, Do it. Tap & chant.  “Synapse is a junction (connection) between 2 nerve cells.” Keep a Smile on your face. Remember, see the definition of a Synapse in your mind’s eye.”

·      13. “I like it, and I try at school. Does it work the same way for business?”

·      14. “Sure. Science shows that “exposure to a rhythm & tune, music, alters and increases the brain’s learning & memory functions”. The Lyrics (words) and the Rhythm (tune) must be integrated as a learning strategy.”

·      15. “Does it work for learning foreign languages?”

·      16. “Yes. The definition of learning is comprehension & memory linked together. Some folks like the tune to “Old McDonald Have a Farm”. Any easy tune, but forget the words, and substitute what you want to learn.”

·      17. “It sounds too easy to work, Pop.”

·      18. “You know about V-A-K. Using your strongest three-senses, Vision-Auditory-Kinesthetic (sensation of movement). See & hear, plus drumming is V-A-K. Do this & you improve learning & memory 33%.”

·      19. “Yeah Pop, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Common sense, singing-a-song puts your brain in Alpha brainwaves, and you relax & remember more.”

·      20. “Kid, you’re a brainiac. You do NOT have to remember this. Rhythm is a synonym for frequency, the same as a radio at 88.5 and a different station at 89 f.m.”

·      21. “So what?”

·      22. “Mehta said, “Our work suggests that some problems with learning & memory (for kids & Seniors) are caused by Synapses not being tuned to the RIGHT frequency.”

·      23. “I still don’t understand, Pop.”

·      24. “When you TAP to a Rhythm, you stimulate the Synapses to increase in strength. That improves your learning & memory. Synapses have a preferred frequency, Rhythmic tapping raises it for Brainiacs.”

·      25. “But Dr. Franklin, what is your Electricity good for?”

·      26. Tap for two-minutes before an exam and you’ll excite

long-term memory improvement. Tap before an interview and your being an extrovert shines through.
Tap before doing a presentation, and the audience will love you. And it is a great Stress-Buster.”

Remember, “the faster you learn, the faster you EARN.”
“Tap-in, Turn-on, and Tune-in” – because in the  Knowledge-Economy, bigger-is-better.”

“You know what Air-Guitar is, What is Air-Palm?
·      1. “Did you know that Guitar companies internationally hold contests for big prizes for the best Air-Guitar pretenders?”

·      2. “No, why, they are just like Elvis imitators or Mimes.”

·      3. “Well, these contests attract thousands, and they end up purchasing expensive guitars. Before you ask, the imitators are ranked on Movements, Emotion, Rhythm, the Mouth Sounds they add to their act.”

·      4. “Uh Pop, Who-cares? So-what? What’s In It For Me?”

·      5. “Good analytical thinking. Be a skeptic, but Not Sarcastic, someone who never examines opposing arguments.
Let’s examine an easy way to improve your short & long-term memory.
·      Adds 30% to learning & memory- which helps you Ace school & Work.”

·      6. “That’s important, how?”

·      7. “You heard of V-A-K, short-hand for Visual-Auditory-Kinesthetic (sensation of movement – touch).

·      When you Listen to a lecture or audio or another person, you forget 90% after 24-hours. When you See information in print or on a screen digitally, you forget 80% in 24-hours.

·      When you write, type, or Read information, you forget 70% in 24-hours. Got it? But when you Combine all three (3) senses – Vision-Auditory-Kinesthetic (writing/typing or Touch), you retain 90% after two-weeks.”

·      8. “Got it, these are my three Major senses for learning & memory, but what’s Palm-writing got to do with it, Pop?”

·      9. “When you  do Not have available pen-and-paper, Make-Believe your dominant index finger is the pen, and you opposite palm is the paper. It uses V-A-K and improves your learning & memory 30%.

·      10. “Wait. Sure, because you See what you are imprinting (in-your-imagination), Hear it pronounced in your head. Last, your Pretend-Writing the Key-word or two lock them into long-term memory, right?”

·      11. “Exactly. You got it as a principle, now Implement it. In Speedreading101.com we call it First Air-Writing, later we found that Palm-Writing is more effective than “Writ-Large” in the Air. When you want to retrieve (recall) the Key-words, just stick out your palm, and let your finger retrace the words.”

·      12. “But it ever works in the Open Air in front of us, without using the palm, right?”

·      13. “Yes, but it looks stupid. No one sees you doing the Air-Palm & it has a higher recall rate.”

·      14. “Will it work for taking exams to get higher grades?”

·      15. “Absolutely Yes. Later in your career, you can use Air-Writing to make you look like a genius in making presentations. Keep you secret strategy.”

·        16. “I like It Pop, any other tips for learning & memory?”

·      17. “This is one that gives you a powerful EASY tool to remember what you hear, read, in reports, articles, & books.”

·      18. “Tell me, I can use all the help I can get.”

·      19. “This is called Six-“W”s & a How. If you use it, you have a Unique Competitive Advantage in both school & at-work.
You Never forget what you read or listen to. It adds 25% to learning &memory. Want to try it?”
“Sure, tell me.”

·      “The order doesn’t matter. Just write: Who? What? When? Where? Why? & Which? Lastly, How?”

·      20. “And do what with them?”

·      21. “If you can answer these questions about what you just heard, read, or were told, you Aced it.” It’s better those Mind-Mapping programs to recall information with a million lines that confuse me.”

·      22. “Wait. I read a chapter or even the entire book, or listen to a lecture, go on line for an article or report?”

·      23. “Take a pen & paper or type on the word processor the answers to WHO? are involved, WHAT is the subject here? WHEN? did it occur? WHERE? Is the site or location?

·      Now answer, WHY? did it happen, or the strategy used. Finally, WHICH? one should win. Choose. The HOW? Shows if you comprehend the behaviors and maybe the motivations? Get it.”

·      24. “But what’s so great about the “Six Ws & How?”

·      25. “It requires you to make a STORY of it. Your brain loves stories that paint-pictures of the action. It’s easy to associate with other stuff in long-term memory.

·      You improve how you learn and remember about 25%. And that’s a lot. And it’s easy. Better yet, you have created a written note taking system for review for exams.”

·      26. “Real winner. How come no one uses it now or teaches it in school?”

·      27. We often MISS the easy way. It seems too stupid to work. Do it and people will erect a college building to you.”

·      “Turn-on, Tune-in, and Tap-in” to new skills & you win all the marbles.” See ya,

How to Use Your Voice to Influence-Persuade-Convince Anyone

How to Use Your Voice to Influence-Persuade-Convince Others
·      1. “Tell me something Pop, how much does good-looks, intelligence, and money affect how women see me?”

·      2. “You want the psychology or neuroscience answer? Not much, maybe 15%. You didn’t name the Killer-Factor that others consciously and subconsciously Judge you by.”

·      3. “Tell me, don’t keep it a secret, Pop.”

·      4. “Just listen, don’t tell me you know better. This is based on 25 years of proven science, using fMRI scanning. Hold your water – it’s your Voice.

·      5. “No way. And don’t say, ‘Yes-way!”

·      6. “Short explanation: men who speak in a D-E-E-P (lower pitch) attract women. Women using a higher-pitch voice attract more men. There are easy strategies to win the game.”

·      7. “That’s what I want to hear, easy-to-learn ways to lower my voice. Does a deeper speaking voice also apply to making executives believe me?”

·      8. “Smart question. Men say they don’t know or care about the ‘voices’ of men they negotiate with, or interview to hire or promote. When they are being questioned under fMRI scans, their brain reveals – a Deeper voice…”

·      9. “Makes for better Persuasion, Influence, and Convincing in job interviews, presentations, and all relationships, right?”

·       10. “Tested and proven since 2,001. Remember this: a lower, deeper pitch of our voice indicates self-confidence
a sense of dominance, and get-this, sexual power.”

·      11. “I bet women get “mental-movies” after hearing deep male voices of hairy-gorillas, six-foot tall, & with big muscles, right?”

·      12. How did you know? And subconsciously, they are healthier and would produce…”

·      13. “Better babies, right?”

·      14. “We know it for scientific fact even when men and women deny it by watching the computer screen using fMRI. Don’t remember this, but it’s a Hierarchy caveman thing.”

·      15.  “Who’s the leader of the pack has the deepest voice? Must be a matter of Physical-Dominance.”

·      16. “It’s Darwin, survival of the fittest, Evolution, and Mutations. Ever read Origin of the Species? We still have a Fight-or-Flight syndrome, in a 21st century mind-body connection. Voice makes you SEXY and Dominant.

·      17. “I read that modern civilization is only ten-thousand years old, is that true? Even though I know we have been around 400,000 years.”

·      18. “Close enough, Homo sapiens (wise man) has been separated from Chimps six-million years ago. Still, we have 97% of the same DNA. Our cognitive skills are NEW,
about ten-thousand years old.”

·      19. “Strategies for a D-e-e-per voice, please. I need help in school and my career later.”

·      20. “First, know your Voice-Box is your Larynx. You can consciously control your Pitch-Volume-Cadence (Rhythm) and the Speed with which you communicate.

·      People judge your state-of-mind, honesty, and trustworthiness, both consciously and subconsciously by how you sound, your voice patterns. Got it?”

·      21. “I know that, get to my strategies to fix it, Pop.”

·      22. “You have to get this first. Men & women trust people who speak F-A-S-T-E-R than the norm.”
Slow-speech leads them to believe you are dumb or a phony, or both.”

·      23. “I would have thought fast-talkers are the Con-Men.”

·      24. “Rapid speech means you are an expert, and know your stuff, got it, kid?”

·      25. “Well, I am a fast-talker, so that adds one for my side.”

·      26. “Step one to deepen your voice. Start with getting into Alpha brainwaves (cycles per second). You know this one. Four Diaphragmatic-Breaths. On exhaling, make the sound, “Hum-m-Hum-m, Hum-m & Hum-m.” Four times makes it a total of 16 “Hum-ms”. Eye open or closed is OK. Easy, right.”

·      27. Takes about 90-seconds, right Pop?”

·      28. “Yeah, now for Step two: sit down, eyes closed. Mentally visualize a large Bass-Drum. Daydream yourself as this Drum and mentally hear it sounding deep and low.

·      29. “OK, I can do that, Pop. I am a Bass-Drum.”

·      30. “Now to sound like the Bass-Drum, on exhaling, once again, make that deep, low, “Humming” sound, four times. Do it for four-exhales.”

·      31. “I feel like the Drum. My humming is getting deeper.”

·      32. “Step three: take the thumb and index-finger of your left hand and make them touch. The other three-fingers spread out. Go two-inches below your BellyButton.”

·      33. “Got it, my left hand is placed just below my navel, not army. That’s a joke Pop. My left hand is resting on my lower abdomen. Where is my right hand?”

·      34. “Two inches below your Umbilicus (navel) is known in Yoga as your “Deliberate Intent”. It a two-pointed strategy. The left hand is controlled by your Right Brain.

·      35. “The Righty controls emotion, pattern-recognition, spatial skills, and creative-imagery. Very powerful, right?”

·      36. “Exactly. Righty is doing the work. It runs your goals and desires. You can activate your Deliberate INTENT by visualizing your successful Goal as completed.

·      “Example: daydream after the interview, you were offered the executive job at $90K annually. See yourself holding a hiring bonus of $10K. S-M-I-L-E and hold it for 17-seconds.

·      Oh yeah, your Right-Hand is across your heart, same as saluting-the-flag. Wait. Your right hand is the second- point. It carries the electro-chemical signal to DO (physically) what you desire.”

·      37. “The entire strategy shows why, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” Last element: V-A-K.

·      38. “Whatever you write or type, immediately crosses over the brain area called Corpus Callosum. That is the communication network between left-&-right hemispheres.“

·      39. “And this really works?”

·      40. “Takes about 3-minutes daily for seven-days. Just remember: when you activate your Deliberate-Intent, you are in alignment between your beliefs & your goals.”

·      “Repeat Aloud or Mentally (silently). “I am deepening my voice – permanently.” Repeat and Emotionalize the six-words four-times. And you are done.”

·      “Kid, it works if you follow this step-by-step Yoga strategy exercise.”

·      Remember, “Turn-on, Tune-in, and Tap-in.” to your Deliberate-Intent. It’s your Willpower on Steroids.
